First, we will need certain tools, which are essential. Everything can be purchased at your local supermarket or is avaible to buy online. The tools you need are:

Now we must choose the wire, which we will use throughout the production. I know from experience that steel wire, galvanized, 1.6mm. is ideal for making a chainmail. Aluminum is lightweight and easy to handle, but too flexible for a chainmail - rings will fall apart. Elastic wire (a dark color) is also good, it is very resistant to splaying, but unfortunately very difficult to wind up, and even more difficult to cut. Although copper looks strikingly, is too soft. Wire was an inexpensive investment.
